Dr. Frederic Grandmont completed his Ph.D. developing a new type of hyperspectral camera for astronomy following a Canadian instrument proposal for the James Webb Space Telescope. He was awarded the CASCA/RASC Plasket medal in 2007 for this work which served as precursor instrument to SITELLE operating at the Canada-France-Hawaii telescope since 2016. Starting as a system engineer in 1998, Frederic now leads among others the development of astronomy and private space opportunities at ABB Canada, the largest supplier of custom optical systems for space in Canada.
